Celebrating Unity and Heritage: The 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Riverton

Riverton, NJ – The Palmyra, Riverton, Cinnaminson Celebration Committee, a dedicated volunteer organization known for fostering community unity through meaningful initiatives, proudly announces its upcoming 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. Set under the vibrant leadership of President Michael Hunt, this event has grown exponentially in popularity since its inception in 2020, drawing an unprecedented number of participants each year.

Kim Robinson and Wanda Swanson, the visionary founders and Comittee leaders, alongside President Hunt, eagerly anticipate welcoming the community to Riverton Memorial Park for this grand celebration on June 19th, from 4 PM to 8 PM. This year, the event continues to collaborate with the boroughs of Palmyra, Riverton, and Cinnaminson, promising an event filled with rich cultural heritage and community spirit. Host Town Mayor Jim Quinn anticipates a Juneteenth Proclamation in recognition of Juneteenth, the night before at the Riverton council
meeting.

This year’s Juneteenth celebration promises a fusion of tradition and innovation, catering to all ages. Attendees will embark on a cultural journey through live music, dance, spoken word, and art presentations. Returning this year Vice President Michelle Songbird Ray and her ensemble, "Ain't Nothing but a Party.” Guests will experience a reenactment of back in time and returning performers “Amped to Dance” is expected to put on a great show! A significant component of the celebration will be the Land and Ancestral Labor Acknowledgement, a poignant reminder of the contributions and sacrifices of People of Color, specifically African Americans, in the advancement and development of our region. Speakers elected officials, including Senator Troy Singleton who sponsored the event this year along the Mayors from Riverton, Cinnaminson and Riverton.

Kaurice Hunt- a dedicated executive team member, has curated a selection of free activities ensuring enjoyment for all. Highlights for the younger guests include pony rides by Horses for Humans- a Black-owned ranch, Bounce house, face painting, and crafts. For everyone else a selfie scavenger hunt & trivia for all ages. The Basketball courts, tennis courts and playground will be accessible ensuring a day filled with plenty of joy and learning.

In line with their mission, the event will feature partnerships with organizations United for change and education including Diversity and Equal Opportunity Network (DEON) Incorporated led by Shelja Touri who joined the PRC Juneteenth Celebration Committee Executive Board recently. DEON will be offering free diverse books thanks to Book Smiles, children's Juneteenth tattoos, and stickers.

Since 2022, Southern Burlington County NAACP Branch led by President Tyrus Ballard- an anticipated speaker- have continued their partnership. The branch’s table will be focussed on member recruitment and Community engagement.

Our commitment to youth empowerment and education remains strong, with active participation from local high school students, particularly those associated with the 'Black Cinnaminson' and 'Cinnaminson Diversity and Alumni Student Council' - Founded by Sebastian G. along with Palmyra High School students. The youth will contribute through volunteering and creative expressions.

A diverse array of 60 vendors and several food trucks signed up to be on site, alongside educational displays curated by PRC Juneteenth Committee and DEON that delve into the historical essence of Juneteenth and its relevance today. PRC Juneteenth Celebration Committee invites everyone to mark their calendars, bring a lawn chair/ picnic blanket, and immerse themselves in the festivities. This event is not only a celebration but a call to action to support the various vendors, enjoy diverse culinary offerings, and unite for a cause that champions social justice, equity, and empowerment.
