All About Us Festival: Juneteenth Celebration in Jersey City

On June 19, 2024, over 1,000 people gathered at Liberty State Park in Jersey City to celebrate Juneteenth at the All About Us Festival. With the Statue of Liberty providing a symbolic backdrop, the event was a vibrant celebration of African American culture and freedom.

The festival, organized by Shannon Mitchell, co-founder of All About Us, highlighted the significance of Juneteenth—the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans were freed in Texas. Dr. Opal Lee, known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” for her efforts in making Juneteenth a national holiday, was a special guest at the festival. The event featured various activities, including live music, cultural performances, and educational booths, offering something for everyone.
