Fly Eagles Fly: Philadelphia Highlights How Formidable This Year’s Team is in Bounce Back Win

Last week, the Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the season in a nail biter against the New York Jets. But they seemingly did not let that loss affect their psyche too much amidst what has been a promising start to the 2023 season, as made evident by their win this week. The Eagles took on the Miami Dolphins in a Sunday night prime time matchup which saw two of the league’s best young quarterbacks ready to duke it out for a win, and that’s exactly what they did. Ultimately though it was the Eagles who came away with the win, proving that they weren’t going to let one loss ruin their pursuit of the Vince Lombardi trophy this season after defeating Miami 31-17. Let’s take a look at just how exactly they got the job done and showed the NFL just how formidable this year’s Eagles team really is.

Both teams came out of the gate in similar fashion, each scoring a field goal in the first quarter to keep the game even at 3-3. It was the second quarter where the real fun really started in which the Eagles outscored Miami 14-7 and went into halftime with a 17-10 lead courtesy of a pair of touchdowns from Jalen Hurts, one 19-yard passing touchdown to Tight End Dallas Goedert and then a rushing touchdown up the middle for 1 yard. Coming out of halftime though, Hurts struggled initially and threw an interception, his eighth of the season, for a pick-six that allowed the Dolphins to tie up the game early in the second half throw. Hurts showed his resilience however and connected with A.J. Brown for his second passing touchdown of the evening on a 14-yard pass that allowed the Eagles to take the lead by 7. Miami ultimately never recovered from this possession, and eventually allowed Philadelphia to score their second rushing touchdown of the evening when Kenneth Gainwell punched it in from 3 yards out and gave us our final score of 31-17. Now Philadelphia looks toward Weeks 8 and 9, which will see them in divisional matchups both on the road and at home versus the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles have always been the type of team that smiles in the face of adversity, and Sunday evening’s matchup highlighted that very well. While Jalen Hurts has thrown almost as many interceptions as he has passing touchdowns this season, that statistic is virtually insignificant as the Eagles head into Week 8 as just 1 of 3 teams to record only one loss so far this season. Bouncing back from bad losses is much more meaningful at this point in the season, and that’s exactly what Philadelphia did Sunday night in defeating Miami by multiple possessions. Fly Eagles fly into Week 8 as they look to sweep their division rivals the Washington Commanders in their second matchup this season following a 34-31 overtime win by Philadelphia back at the beginning of the month.
