Get ready, New Jersey! The rap group Wu-Tang Clan is bringing their unique brand of hip-hop culture to the Garden State with the opening of a cannabis lounge helmed by one of its members Raekwon. It’s called Hashtoria and it’s set to open at 799-805 Broad St. in Newark’s Four Corners Historic District this March. This will be Hashtoria’s fourth location - New Jersey - to allow customers to consume marijuana where it is sold in certain licensed locations. Co-founder of the Hashtoria brand collective and Wu-Tang member Raekwon “The Chef” is bringing his mix of music, merch, and cannabis straight to the East Coast.
Raekwon “The Chef” has been paving his own lane since 1993 when he released his debut solo album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… He has since worked on several projects with other members of the rap group Wu-Tang Clan, such as Enter the 36 Chambers, Wu-Tang Forever, The W, Iron Flag, 8 Diagrams and A Better Tomorrow. Raekwon is also credited for being an early pioneer for the now-popular sub-genre of hip hop called Mafioso Rap or Crime Rap. His influence on the rap game can not be denied and it looks like he plans on pushing boundaries even further by creating a cannabis lounge that operates according to his vision.
Hashtoria will bring together two cultural pillars – music and marijuana – in a safe space for patrons to enjoy both aspects without stigma or judgment. Through this venture, Raekwon hopes to create an inclusive atmosphere that celebrates cannabis culture from all walks of life. In addition to offering premium quality cannabis products from local vendors, Hashtoria will feature live music performances from some of today's top artists as well as celebrity meet&greets and special events throughout the year.
All signs point towards Hashtoria being an important addition not just for Newark but for New Jersey's booming cannabis industry as well.
